NAB and UBank launch Apple Pay, leaving Westpac behind

Many Aussies around the country may find themselves feeling a little glum following the end of Game of Thrones, but it looks like NAB and UBank customers will be celebrating.

Both NAB and UBank announced this morning that customers can now access Apple Pay and make easy and secure payments through their smartphone.

In December last year, CommBank become the second bank to offer Apple Pay to customers, despite rumoured hesitancy to adopt the payment platform.

But according to NAB Chief Customer Experience Officer, Rachel Slade, the decision came down to customer satisfaction.

“We’ve been hearing from customers that they want Apple Pay and it’s great to be able to launch this service today,” she said.

“We’re continuing to listen to customer feedback and take action to become the bank our customers want.”

Slade went on to say that the move to offer the much-loved payment platform was also to support the bank’s future developments with its services.

“As part of our transformation we are investing significantly in our technology and digital services to support our customers to manage their money how they choose,” she explained.

At the time of writing, only 35 bank accounts in the Mozo database offer Apple Pay as a payment feature and with three of the big four banks now offering Apple Pay, could it only be a matter of time until Westpac finally follows suit?

Westpac was tipped to launch the service last year following a number of customer complaints, but the bank still continued to hold out.

However many Westpac customers can still pay with their smartphone, as Samsung Pay and Android Pay are both available.

Award winning banking with UBank

Everyday, more and more Aussies are turning to digital wallets and innovative payment platforms for their everyday purchases. And with UBank now offering Apple Pay, it now gives their 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Award a whole new meaning.

In February, Mozo awarded UBank a 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Award in the bank account and savings account category for its USaver with Ultra Transaction Account as well as the title of Savings Account Provider of the Year.
