These 3 credit cards are offering 100,000 bonus frequent flyer points

With borders finally open again, many Australians will be overjoyed at the prospect of being able to plan a domestic or international travel adventure for 2022.

That’s not the only good news though. Travellers looking for a way to bag some extra Qantas Points or Velocity Points before booking their trip might be interested in knowing that there are some seriously large bonus point offers currently available on a number of credit cards.

We’re talking about 100,000 or more frequent flyer points on offer to new customers who can meet the minimum spend requirements and conditions. Intrigued? We’ve wrapped up three credit cards with bumper bonus point deals below.

Looking to bump up your Velocity Points balance? Virgin Money’s Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card (Bonus Points Offer) could help you do just that. New cardholders who apply before 31 January, 2022, can score up to 25,000 bonus Velocity Points each month for the first four months (up to a total of 100,000) from approval when they spend at least $1,500 per month on eligible transactions. The card also comes with an earn rate of 0.66 Velocity Points per $1 spent on eligible transactions up to $1,500/month, then 0.5 Points per $1 over $1,500. The purchase rate on the card is a relatively high 20.74% and there is a $129 annual fee to consider (though it’s halved to $64 in the first year).

American Express - Velocity Platinum Card

  • Complimentary domestic flight each year (T&Cs apply)
  • Earn up to 2.25 Velocity Points per $1 on eligible purchases (T&Cs apply)

If you like to fly with Virgin then the Velocity Platinum Card is one worth looking at. The card comes with a whopping 100,000 bonus Velocity Points offer which is available to new Amex members who apply online and, once approved, spend $3,000 or more within three months of their approval date. Cardholders can also accrue points on an ongoing basis with an earn rate of 2.25 Velocity Points per $1 spent on eligible Virgin Australia purchases and 1.5 points per $1 on other card purchases (except government bodies in Australia). The card even comes with a complimentary domestic flight and two Virgin Australia Lounge passes each year, though it does have a relatively steep purchase rate of 20.74% and a $375 annual fee.

QANTAS POINTS OFFERS

American Express - Qantas Ultimate Card
  • 100,000 bonus Qantas Points up for grabs (T&Cs apply)
  • $450 Qantas travel credit each year (T&Cs apply)
  • Earn up to 2.25 Qantas Points per $1 on eligible purchases (T&Cs apply)

Qantas lovers may also want to take a closer look at the American Express Qantas Ultimate Card. First up, there’s a bumper 100,000 bonus Qantas Points offer for new card members who apply online and, once approved, spend $3,000 or more within the first three months. That’s just the start though, as the card also comes with an uncapped points earning rate of 2.25 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible Qantas purchases and 1.25 Qantas Points per $1 on other card purchases (except government bodies in Australia). Cardholders will also get a $450 annual Qantas travel credit to use on eligible domestic or international flights, plus two complimentary American Express Airport Lounge entries and two Qantas Club Lounge invitations (T&Cs apply) each year. The card isn’t cheap though, as it comes with a $450 annual fee and it has a purchase rate of 20.74%.
