Visa unveil keypad credit card
Visa has unveiled a new weapon in the fight against crime: a credit card with its own PIN keypad.
The group explain that users will be added to shop online more safely when using the card, as all transactions will need to be verified by a single-use security code generated by tapping in their PIN on the card.
A small LCD screen – powered by a battery designed to last up to three years – then displays the code, which is used to tell the website that the sale is legit.
The card is currently available in Europe but if trials are successful, Aussies could soon benefit from a new era of cheap credit cards that allow them to feel safe when bagging bargains on the web.
Sandra Alzetta, senior vice-president of products and innovation at Visa Europe, said the team were very proud of the product.
“Visa is committed to protecting consumers and the Visa one-time code card is a major step forward in achieving this goal,” she said.
