If you are looking to land yourself a new credit card with great rates and awesome rewards look no further than the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Credit Card - Bonus Points offer. You can earn up to 60,000 bonus Velocity Points (T&Cs apply) plus enjoy 0% interest on any balances transferred for 12 months.
It also won a 2022 Mozo Experts Choice Award for best Velocity Frequent Flyer Credit Card.
You will be on your way to flying free fast with the 60,000 bonus Velocity points on offer with this card. You'll earn 30,000 Points for each month you spend $1,500 on eligible transactions for the first 2 months after you're approved.
With this bonus point option there is also an introductory balance transfer rate of 0% for 18 months. While the introductory offers are a great way to save on repayments now, be sure to pay off your balance by the end of the honeymoon period or your balance will revert to the cash advance rate of 20.99%.
This credit card has a standard interest rate of 20.74% for purchases and a 55 day interest free period. Additional credit cards come at the cost of $39.
The card has an annual fee of $149.
The card also comes with Visa PayWave functionality so you can tap and go for your next purchase under $100. If you use the card internationally you will pay a 3.30% foreign exchange margin on all transactions.
The reward program is linked to the Velocity Frequent Flyer Rewards program. Virgin Velocity Flyer Cardholders earn 0.66 Velocity points for every dollar they spend (up to $1500) and then 0.5 point for every $1 after. Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer cardholders also get access to a concierge service, exclusive Virgin family offers and free transit accident insurance.
One of the hottest features of the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer credit card is the $149 Virgin Australia Gift Voucher you can redeem each year. Use it for a flight (including sale fares) or holiday package - you can redeem it anytime within 6 months of the voucher issue date.
The Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer credit card is perfect for anyone who is prone to enjoy a bit of out-of-state retail therapy and is disciplined about paying off their credit card balance in full each month. Note that to be eligible for the credit card you have to earn a minimum of $35,000.
The rewards earning rate drops after you spend $1,500 each month to 0.5 point for every $1 spent so it could take a while to rack up a decent number of rewards points for things like overseas travel and accommodation.
The standard annual fee is $149 per year.

It takes 3 days for my transfer to show up in my credit card. I cannot have payments come out when I need to as the money I transferred is in limbo. I have never had this happen before with any other card.

They charge INTL transactions fees even you process the payment via an Australian terminal. Non of the other banks do it.

An extremely inefficient organisation. Lodged my paperwork advised conditionally approved. Sent all required tax returns assessments. Every week since application lodged 6 weeks now l receive an sms to say they require fuether paperwork. First call they tell me sorry we have it next time it’s in assessin on it In I each sms requesting further information they tell me they have all paperwork telling me its being assessed. I have no debt own my own home work full time and earn about 5 times their taxable income requirement. Wanted it for velocity points as a gold member. Last call on Friday when they sent a further sms for more information and then told me to ignore the message that it was in assessing was my request to withdraw application. Never wasted so much of my time with any organisation. Do not touch or waste your time hopeless hopeless hopeless.

I stopped using the card and had like $10 owed. I thought I payed it off, but apparently I still owed like $2 because of interest, so they charged me a $30 late fee... which they also charged interest on. This was during the peak of the pandemic in Australia. I thought a $30 late fee over petty $2 during a global pandemic was a bit greedy. Resentfully I made the payment, which apparently only went to the account keeping fees, which meant I didn't pay the amount owed, so another $30 was due. I was so confused so I payed all the ridiculous fees plus the interest on their fees and the account fees and tried to close the account. But then they wouldn't let me close it because the account was in credit? Meanwhile they are charging me account keeping fees because they kept my account open. Anyway, I would have let this go... but I've just found out that the situation has totally destroyed my otherwise perfect credit score over the initial $2. BE VERY CAREFUL!
