About Macquarie

As one of the larger banks in Australia, Macquarie offers a range of banking products including home loans, bank accounts and savings accounts, as well as other financial services to customers throughout the country.

Macquarie’s even been recognised for the quality and value its banking products provide, having taken out the major title of Everyday and Savings Bank of The Year in the 2021 Mozo Experts Choice Awards.

What does the Macquarie app do?

The Macquarie Mobile Banking app is the go-to platform for customers wanting to manage their finances on the go from their smartphones. That means Macquarie customers can do everything from checking their account balances and monitoring their transactions to transferring money and even opening a new account all through the app.

But those are just the basics. The Macquarie app is also jam-packed with some of the leading  features and tools around to help users manage, budget, spend and save, which is why it was named a 2020 and 2021 Mozo Experts Choice Award winner for Excellent Banking App.

Features we love

Given its multiple awards, it’s not surprising that the Macquarie Mobile Banking app is both smooth to use and easy to navigate around, but it also comes with a fair few other elements which users will appreciate.

The first of these are the security options. Customers can log into the app with a PIN or via biometrics (fingerprint or Face ID), but there’s also an extra layer of security with two-factor authentication and the separate Macquarie Authenticator app. Users can even customise their settings by choosing which devices and account information requires two-factor security.

What about keeping tabs on your spending? If you’re using Macquarie as your day-today bank then you’ll be pleased to know that the app gives users some next level transaction insights, including auto-categorisation of purchases (e.g. groceries, leisure or travel) and the ability to search transactions via the amount spent, the merchant involved or over a specific time period.

The app also has a few handy travel features. Once you head overseas the Travel Mode function will allow you to view the local exchange rate in your location and you’ll be able to see how much each purchase made was in the local currency and AUD. You can also lock your card in the app if it goes missing and unlock it if you find it.

Aside from these highlights, some of the other notable app features include:

  • The ability for users to set up customisable spending notifications for purchases made both in Australia and overseas
  • A ‘dark mode’ option for iOS users wanting to limit their battery use or limit eye strain
  • An in-app marketplace where customers can redeem Macquarie Reward points or purchase discounted eGift cards
  • A customisable dashboard which allows users to choose what they want displayed on their home screen
  • Macquarie also supports mobile payment options like Apple Pay and Google Pay, as well as PayID

What we’re not so hot on

While the Macquarie Mobile Banking app has a lot to write home about users won’t be able to make use of Samsung Pay for smartphone payments just yet.
