Woolworths award-winning pet insurance

A lady holds her puppy close to her chest. She is smiling and the dog has a goofy smile too.

Keeping your beloved little furry friend’s health in check is important. But even when we do our very best to keep them safe and healthy, accidents and illnesses can still occur.

That’s where Woolworths comes in. With Woolworths pet insurance you could have up to 80% of eligible pet bills covered if your dog or cat is accidentally injured or falls ill.

Woolies offer five policy tiers to suit most budgets:

  • Basic Cover
  • Standard Cover
  • Indoor Cat Cover
  • Comprehensive Cover
  • Comprehensive Plus Cover.

When considering which options offered the best value for the most extensive collection of insurance features, our judges couldn’t look past Woolworths’ Comprehensive pet insurance cover in the 2022 Mozo Experts Choice Awards for Pet Insurance^.

About Woolworths Pet Insurance

Woolworths brings many things to the table when it comes to pet insurance. Savvy pet parents will appreciate the Price Beat Promise, where if you find a lower comparable quote, Woolies may offer to beat the quoted premium (T&Cs and eligibility criteria apply). Plus, you’ll be eligible for 10% off your grocery shop once a month on a trolley-load worth up to $500 (T&Cs apply).

What’s more, 93% of Woolworths pet insurance claims are processed within 5 days or less of providing all the relevant documentation for your claim, making cover fast and seamless for Aussie pet owners.

Plus, as a Woolies pet insurance customer, you may get complimentary access to the VetAssist program (valued at $199 p.a.) for one year, as long as your policy remains active (T&Cs apply). VetAssist allows customers to consult with licensed Australian veterinarians via video call or online chat if they need advice or are unsure if a trip to the vet is necessary.

About Woolworths’ Mozo Experts Choice Award win

Woolworths was awarded two 2022 Mozo Experts Choice Awards^ in the Exceptional Quality Pet Insurance category for both the Comprehensive Plus and Comprehensive Plus + Routine Care policies, where the Routine Care component can be purchased as an optional extra.

In the Exceptional Quality category, the Mozo experts looked at 131 policies from 32 providers and narrowed the final list down to 10 award-winning policies – two of which Woolworths secured.

The Mozo judges based their decision on the generosity of benefits and the flexibility included in a pet insurance policy. If you’re interested in the specifics of the 2022 Mozo Experts Choice Awards^ criteria, including the 14 factors which the policies were measured against, check out the methodology report here

So, let’s take a look at what Woolworths' award-winning policies have to offer.

Woolworths Comprehensive Plus Pet Insurance*

With a generous annual benefit limit of up to $30,000 for eligible claim payouts, it’s not surprising this policy stood out from the pack.

Other features worth noting in Woolworths’ Comprehensive Plus policy include:

  • Up to $30,000 annual benefit limit (with up to 80% back on eligible vet bills)
  • Optional excess of $0 or $100 up-front
  • Option to add on Routine Care benefits (see below)
  • Specified accidental injury for a range of situations
  • Illness cover
  • Access to GapOnly™, a claims payment service that reviews and calculates your claims while you’re at the vet, meaning you only pay the gap (the difference between the vet's invoice and the claim benefit under your policy)
  • Hip joint surgery (including hip replacements)
  • Cruciate ligament cover (with sub-limits per leg, per policy period)
  • Vet consultation fees (up to $300 annually)
  • Complimentary access to VetAssist program.

Woolworths Routine Care benefits*

Along with their Comprehensive Plus policy, Woolworths pet insurance customers have the option to pay an extra premium to secure a Routine Care benefit.

Woolworths Routine Care benefit can help out with some of the cost of eligible preventative treatments for your pet, which can include:

  • Desexing
  • Microchipping
  • Heartworm prevention
  • Teeth cleaning and dental illness treatment
  • Alternative therapies
  • Behavioural therapy
  • Obedience training
  • Vaccination
  • Health checks.

However, keep in mind that reading the product disclosure statement (PDS) of your policy before purchasing it is the best way to understand if a policy meets your needs. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of the benefit limits, sub-limits, inclusions, and exclusions of a policy – including Routine Care limits. The relevant PDS and Target Market Determination (TMD) can be found on the Woolworths website.
