RBA could hike rates in May amid inflation surge
New data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics has revealed a 5.1% rise in headline inflation over the last 12 months, only adding to the current cost of living concerns and the likelihood of a pre-election interest rate hike.
On a quarterly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) saw a 2.1% rise. According to ABS head of prices statistics, Michelle Marquardt, both the quarterly and annual increases were the biggest since the introduction of the goods and services tax.

Are there any fixed home loan rates that start with a 1?
The RBA (Reserve Bank of Australia) has strongly indicated its plans to increase the Australian cash rate, meaning Aussie homeowners could soon experience a very different interest rate landscape.
“Banks have been anticipating an eventual move by the RBA for a long time now. As a result, most of the fixed rates below 2% p.a. that borrowers once had access to have now disappeared,” said Mozo Money Writer Niko Iliakis.

All about Victoria’s Affordable Housing Rental Scheme
Amid the current cost of living crisis and home loan interest rate rise conundrum, Victorians could soon find a source of relief.
To help close the housing gap and alleviate rental stress, the Victorian government recently announced its plans to launch an Affordable Housing Rental Scheme.
“As part of their $5.3 billion Big Housing Build, the scheme will deliver an initial supply of 2,400 affordable rental homes to metropolitan Melbourne and regional city centres. Special provisions have also been included for essential workers, like nurses, police, and teachers,” said Mozo Money writer Evlin DuBose.
