It's time for one of the biggest sporting events of the year: The Super Bowl.

This year the Philadelphia Eagles are up against the Kansas City Chiefs.

But first – What’s more exciting: the game? Or the fact that Rihanna’s performing (for the first time since 2019) at the halftime show? It’s the latter for me (in case you were wondering).

Whether you’re into the sport or not, you can’t deny that the halftime show is always worth a watch – and is arguably more talked about than the game itself.

Anyhoo, here are all the important deets – like how to watch the 2023 Super Bowl live in Australia:

The Halftime Show: Rihanna headlines

(Scroll back up to the top to find out where you can watch the 2023 Super Bowl and Rihanna's halftime show performance in Australia!)

“This is what you came for”. Yep, that’s right! The one and only BadGalRiRi performed live as the headline act at the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime show. Ahhh!!

This is Rihanna’s first big performance since 2019. I guess that starting a multi-billion-dollar beauty brand and becoming a mum leaves little room in the schedule for pop stardom.

Here's the mysterious Instagram post where the star dropped the news:

Seriously. Only Rihanna could rack up 7.1 million likes on a post captioned “.” with a pic of a football.

UPDATE (13/02/2023):

What a performance! After years of patiently waiting for Rihanna’s return to the stage – boy, did she bring the house down.

With a whole flashmob of backup dancers rocking some marshmallow-esque ‘fits, in just 13 minutes BadGalRiRi took us through a whirlwind of some of her biggest hits – floating podiums and all!

Not just that, but after a not-so-subtle belly rub at the start of her set, RiRi’s rep has just confirmed (to The Hollywood Reporter) that the star is officially pregnant with her second child.

Rihanna and partner A$AP Rocky welcomed their first child in May last year.

Rihanna’s 2023 Super Bowl halftime show setlist:

  3. Only Girl (In the World) – (With elements of "Where Have You Been")

Standout Super Bowl Halftime Show performances

The Super Bowl halftime show is never short of spectacular. Throughout Super Bowl history, musical icons like Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige have taken to the halftime show stage and blown the socks off the global audience that’s watching.

Each year the quality only seems to get better and better. Here’s a look at some past halftime show performances:

Beyoncé Super Bowl Halftime performance (2013):

Number one in my books (Rihanna, please feel free to change this) has to be the Beyoncé halftime moment from 2013.

I’ll never forget the first time I watched it, back in high school – smack bang in the middle of class (not even my teacher could resist). GOOSEBUMPS. Espesh during Bey’s grand entrance.

Beyoncé, Bruno Mars & Coldplay Super Bowl Halftime show (2016):

Another halftime moment worth remembering was the Beyoncé, Bruno Mars & Coldplay performance in 2016.

Bey bursting in with an army of backup dancers to the sound of ‘Formation’ – the first track on her upcoming ‘Lemonade’ record? Now that's how you drop an album!

Oh, and a dance-off between Beyoncé AND Bruno Mars? Nothing will beat this star-studded performance. Particularly that oh-so hilarious moment when Bruno Mars smugly struts across the stage to the beat of his legendary opponent’s hit song “Crazy In Love”. Such a flex.

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar & 50 Cent  Super Bowl Halftime show (2022):

Which brings us to the utter greatness of last year’s Super Bowl Halftime performance featuring the likes of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent.

“Ba-da-da-da-dah. It's the mother**** D-O double-G (SNOOP DOGGGG!)”. For any old-school (or new-school) hip-hop fans, this performance is an absolute must-watch.

As you can see, there’ll be LOTS to look forward to at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
