Frequently Asked Questions about Bank of us credit cards

What is the interest free period on my Bank of us credit card?

A Bank of us credit card affords you a slightly over average interest free period, at 57 days. Just keep in mind that if you’re making purchases towards the end of your statement cycle, you’ll have less than 57 days to pay them off before being charged interest, because this period begins when your statement cycle does, not when you make a purchase.

What fees might I be charged?

While your Bank of us card comes with both an annual and foreign transaction fee, the good news is that unlike most credit cards, it doesn’t attract a fee for cash advances. Having said that, keep in mind that you won’t get interest free days on any cash advance made on your credit card. Still, that’s a pretty good deal!

What’s the minimum repayment amount I must make?

Your minimum payment each month will be either $10 or 3% of your credit card balance - whichever is greater.

Keep in mind that this is only a minimum payment, and if you can, it’s always a good idea to pay off your whole balance, to avoid being charged extra interest.

Can I use my Bank of us credit card for a balance transfer?

No unfortunately you can’t. If you want to manage a previous credit card balance by using a balance transfer deal, check out our comparison.

Can I use my Bank of us credit card while I’m travelling overseas?

Good news for all the globetrotters out there - Bank of us credit cards work on the VISA network, which is available all around the world. Just make sure your travel budget accounts for foreign exchange rates! Or, you can check out a prepaid travel card.

How does payWave work with my Bank of us credit card?

PayWave is a VISA scheme which you can use with your Bank of us credit card. It means that when you’re making purchases under $100, you can use contactless payment or Tap ‘n’ Go. Take a look at our contactless payment guide for more information.

What rewards options do I have with my Bank of us  credit card?

Long story short, none. This is a no-frills credit card, designed with savings in mind, rather than perks, so it doesn’t come with any rewards program. If you’re looking for a credit card that will let you earn cool freebies or rewards, check out these great rewards credit cards.

Avoiding credit card fraud

Credit card fraud is one of the risks of using a credit card. One of the common types of fraud is scammers, who contact you trying to get your credit card details, and not all of them are as obvious as a Nigerian Prince. Here are some tips on spotting a credit card scam:

Trust your instincts - if it sounds too good to be true, chances are it is

If you’re contacted out of nowhere with claims that you’ve won something or received a refund, it’s probably fake

If you receive an email that looks like it’s from Bank of us but asks you for your account details, or to confirm details by clicking a link, it is likely a scam. No financial institute should be contacting you for secure details in this way

If you receive a phone call asking for your account or personal details it is likely a scam. While you can do your banking over the phone, Bank of us won’t contact you out of nowhere to do it - you’ll usually have to call them first.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE COMPANY

I never missed a payment! Yet they continuously decrease my credit which decreases my credit score it's funny how you do what's responsible by paying every time before the due date, more then the minimum and still lose credit! Makes no sense at all! There are no pros only cons with this horrible company!

Inexpensive convenience!

I have never actually paid any interest on my credit card, but if I did the interest is 11% per annum, better than the 21% that Westpac want. The only downside to this product, is that is not connected to frequent flyer points!
