Qantas Home and Contents Insurance offers coverage for homeowners looking to protect their residence and treasured belongings. Cover is for a wide range of insured events, including fire, storms, theft, vandalism, earthquake, and escape of liquid (E.g. burst pipe). There’s extra benefits on the table including a 30% discount for the first year on your premium when you take out the Qantas Home Building Insurance and Contents Insurance online for the same address, as well as the opportunity to earn Qantas Points simply for taking out a policy or paying your premium (T&Cs apply).
With this combined policy, you can expect the structure of your home to be repaired or completely rebuilt (up to the sum it’s insured for) after an insurable event, including attached internal elements of the home like benchtops. The same goes for the insured contents of your home. Just be sure to check the product disclosure statement (PDS) for any criteria or conditions that apply.
In addition, this product covers accommodation costs for you and your pets (up to 12 months or 10% of the sum insured) should the home become unliveable after an insured event . If you need to rebuild your home, Qantas can sort out debris removal as well as extra rebuilding costs in addition to the sum insured (up to 10% more) like demolition and other professional costs.
When it comes to specified contents insurance, there’s a huge range of items with automatic cover at set pay-out limits. For example, home office equipment is covered for up to $15,000, hand-woven carpets and rugs for up to $5,000 per item, and jewellery and watches for a maximum $1,000 per item/set or $5,000 in total. You may be able to increase these limits (for a price) if your items are higher in value than the set limits.
There are also a range of optional covers you can opt-in for by paying an additional fee. This includes flood cover, insuring portable items you take away from your home (like jewellery or cameras), and sum insured safeguard which will increase your home insurance sum insured up to 25% (in case rebuilding or replacing your home costs more than you had it insured for).
You’ll get extra bang for your insurance premium buck by taking out a combined home and contents policy (a 15% discount for the first year) and can also earn up to 30,000 Qantas Points when you join or switch by the 28th May 2024 (min. spend $1,550 per policy) - (T&Cs apply).
Anyone looking to protect their home and belongings with comprehensive coverage while taking advantage of the combined policy discount and Qantas Points offer.
Remember: damage caused by flooding isn’t included as standard – you’ll need to take out flood cover as an optional extra for an additional fee.

Qantas is underwritten by Auto & General Insurance. If you have to ever make a claim (heaven forbid) Qantas don’t want to know about it and abrogate all dealings to Auto & General which operates as an impersonal production line commodity broker where policy holders are treated like potential/suspected criminals. You are not treated with any humanity despite having experienced trauma. Sadly Auto & General’s mantra is to pay out as little as possible to their claimants with the ultimate goal of paying nothing. Their success is measured by whether they can “break” the claimant by using every tactic in the book to do so. Qantas sells this insurance to unsuspecting clients by using their “brand of trust” however be warned & do not touch this product. The policy you buy has nothing to do with Qantas. Any problems you encounter are redirected to Auto & General by Qantas. All Qantas are doing is collecting the commission on the sale of the policy. Do not go there! Be warned. Our house sustained major damage when arsonists lit a fire in an adjoining property and it has taken almost two years to resolve and is still ongoing. Our beds were on fire. Fortunately nobody was physically injured for which we are grateful. Don’t believe any of the hyperbole and rhetoric you witness on the television adverts for Auto & General. It’s just fantasy.
