Credit Card Provider Of The Year

A huge congratulations to Bankwest who has been named the Mozo Experts Choice Awards Credit Card Provider Of The Year for 2024 for the second year in a row. This recognition comes after winning awards in various categories, including Low Rate, No Annual Fee, and Balance Transfers.

Bankwest's range of credit card options is well worth considering, as they offer some of the best value cards available. Each of these cards were awarded in more than one category:

  • Breeze Platinum Mastercard
  • Zero Mastercard
  • Zero Platinum Mastercard
  • Qantas World Mastercard

Low Rate Credit Card

Credit card interest rates can vary enormously, and make a real difference to the cost of carrying a balance on the card. The winners in this category have some of the lowest purchase rates available, but the judges also took into account the impact of the annual fee charged for holding the card and the number of interest free days on offer to find this year’s winners.

Congratulations to:

Community First Bank, Credit Union SA, Defence Bank, Easy Street, G&C Mutual Bank, Illawarra Credit Union, and MOVE Bank

Low Rate Premium Credit Card

The winners in this category prove that you don’t have to pay exorbitant interest rates to carry a premium card and take advantage of the extra benefits they usually bring. The winners in this category were judged on the interest rate and annual fee.

Congratulations to:

Bank First, Bankwest, Citi, and P&N Bank

No Annual Fee Credit Card

For people who usually pay off their credit card balance every month with the aim of not paying interest, the annual fee and interest free days are critical, while interest rates are also important, should plans change. The judges identified those cards with no annual fee and good interest free periods, and awarded those cards with the lowest interest rates.

Congratulations to:

American Express, Bank First, Bankwest, Credit Union SA, Firefighters Mutual Bank, Health Professionals Bank, Hume Bank, ING, QBANK, Teachers Mutual Bank, and UniBank

No Annual Fee Premium Credit Card

Only three platinum cards met our criteria for this category of charging no annual fee and offering an interest free days period. The interest rates on these cards are not as low as the winners in the standard No Annual Fee category, but for customers who confidently clear the balance every month that cost disappears.

Congratulations to:

Bankwest and Bendigo Bank

Balance Transfer Credit Card

Balance transfers come in all shapes and sizes, which can make it very hard to compare options when paying down an existing debt is your priority. The Mozo judges crunched the numbers to find which offer the best value for a typical cardholder, taking into account not only the balance transfer terms, but also the annual fee and what it might cost once the introductory rate expires.

Congratulations to:

Bank of Melbourne, Bank of Queensland, BankSA, Bankwest, NAB, QBANK, and St.George

What are the Mozo Experts Choice Awards?

Now in their eleventh year, the Mozo Experts Choice Awards present an opportunity to recognise products in the market we believe offer great value to Australians.

For the 2024 Credit Card awards, our Experts analysed 199 personal credit card products issued by 67 Australian financial institutions head to head.

“There are so many credit cards on offer, some with lower rates, some with less fees, and lots of different perks. When looking for a  credit card the best card for you will depend on what your needs are, and what features you want,” said Peter Marshall, Mozo Experts Choice judge.

“With these awards we aim to find which credit cards are the best for different types of users, whether you want to minimise interest, avoid a hefty annual fee, or grab a great low rate.”

FAQs

What’s the Judging Criteria for the Mozo Experts Choice Awards?

Running since 2014, the Mozo Experts Choice Awards recognise products that deliver exceptional value or benefits to consumers. See our 2024 Mozo Experts Choice Awards for Credit Cards methodology report for detailed information on how we performed product comparisons for credit cards to determine the final winners for 2024.

Did you compare all credit card providers in the market for these awards?

In this year’s awards we analysed 199 personal  credit card products issued by 67 Australian financial institutions. We aim to include most providers in the market in the Mozo Experts Choice Awards. However, not every product in the market will be included in our review. For a full list of the providers included in our assessment, please see our methodology report.

How do I choose the best credit card for me?

When you’re looking for a credit card you’ll want to think carefully about your ability to repay any balance, and the card benefits that you’ll use most or get the best value from.

For instance, low rate cards are generally better value if you carry a balance on your card from time to time. If you’re able to pay off your balance in full each month, a no annual fee or rewards credit card could be best for you.
