About Petcover Pet Insurance

Petcover is a privately-owned Australian pet insurance provider that offers cover for a wide range of animals, ranging from cats and dogs, to horses, and even exotic birds. 

Petcover has a range of pet insurance policies, designed to fit most budgets and circumstances. Their policies are split up into three categories, of which there are three separate sub-categories of cover in each, with different limits, sub-limits and inclusions. 

Petcover’s tiers of pet insurance are as follows:

About Petcover’s Mozo Experts Choice Award win

For the Mozo Experts Choice Awards^ in 2022, Petcover took out an award in each tier they offer. 

Petcover’s Safety-net Economy plan took out one of the awards for Exceptional Value Accident & Illness Pet Insurance^. Their mid-range plan, Key + Routine Care, was among policies noted as Exceptional Value Comprehensive Pet Insurance^. Finally, one of Petcover’s top-tier comprehensive plans, Superior, took out one of the Exceptional Quality Pet Insurance^ awards.

Petcover Safety-net Economy Pet Insurance* 

Petcover’s Safety-net Economy plan offers an annual benefit limit of up to $7,000 for injury and illness, plus a fixed-rate excess of minimum $150 for dogs and $125 for cats (which goes up depending on your pet’s age).

Features worth noting with Petcover’s Safety-net Economy policy include:

  • Up to $7,000 annual benefit limit
  • Up to 100% back on eligible vet bills (T&Cs apply) 
  • Excess starting at $150 for dogs and $125 for cats (depending on your pet’s age)  
  • Accidental injury cover
  • Illness cover
  • Alternative therapy cover (up to $1,000)
  • Third-party liability cover for dogs (up to $1 million)
  • Boarding costs (up to $1,000)
  • Advertising and reward if stolen or lost (up to $1,000)
  • Holiday cancellation (up to $1,000)
  • Multi-pet discount (3+ eligible pets).

Petcover Key + Routine Care Pet Insurance*

Petcover’s Key + Routine Care (Day to day care) plan offers an annual benefit limit of up to $15,000, plus your choice of excess ($0, $100, or $200).

This policy also includes ‘Umbrella for life’ – meaning that you can continue to claim costs for ongoing treatment of an illness or injury throughout your pet’s lifetime, as long as there isn’t a lapse or break in cover.

Features worth noting with Petcover’s Safety-net Economy policy include:

  • Up to $15,000 annual benefit limit
  • Accidental injury cover
  • Illness cover
  • Third-party liability cover for dogs (up to $1 million)
  • Cruciate ligament cover (up to $3,000) 
  • Vet consultations
  • Paralysis tick over (up to $2,000 for first treatment) 
  • Cancer treatment (up to $5,000) 
  • Hip dysplasia 
  • Skin conditions 
  • Boarding fees
  • Essential euthanasia
  • Multi-pet discount (3+ eligible pets).

Petcover’s Day to day care, an optional extra benefit, includes a $50 annual benefit for one of the following routine care options, per year:

  • Desexing
  • Microchipping
  • Heartworms
  • Behavioural therapy
  • Teeth cleaning 
  • Council registration fees
  • Alternative therapies
  • Prescription diets
  • Dewclaw removal 
  • Dog training.

Petcover’s Day to day care also includes an individual annual benefit for all of the following routine care benefits:

  • Vaccinations or health checks (up to $30)
  • Heartworm test or blood screen (up to $10)
  • FeLv/FIV test or urinalysis ($10)
  • Flea/worm control (up to $45)

Petcover Superior Pet Insurance*

Petcover’s Superior plan offers an annual benefit limit of up to $20,000 for dogs and $15,000 for cats, plus a fixed-rate excess of minimum $150 for dogs and $125 for cats (which goes up depending on your pet’s age).

This policy also includes ‘Umbrella for life’ – meaning that you can continue to claim costs for ongoing treatment of an illness or injury throughout your pet’s lifetime, as long as there isn’t a lapse or break in cover.

  • Alternative and complementary treatments for cats (up to $4,000) 
  • Third-party liability cover for dogs (up to $5 million)
  • Death from injury or illness (up to $2,000) 
  • Boarding fees (up to $2,000) 
  • Advertising and reward if stolen or lost (up to $2,000) 
  • Holiday cancellation (up to $2,000)
  • Emergency repatriation
  • Multi-pet discount (3+ eligible pets).

However, keep in mind that reading the product disclosure statement (PDS) of your policy before purchasing it is the best way to understand if a policy meets your needs. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of the benefit limits, sub-limits, inclusions, and exclusions of a policy – including Day to day cover (routine care) limits.
