RAC award-winning pet insurance

A cat affectionately rubs their head into a lady's outstretched palm.

RAC has a long history of providing car insurance to Aussies, along with services like roadside assistance. So, yes, the company’s name – Royal Automobile Club of Western Australia – is rather apt. But did you know that it also offers pet insurance? In fact, it’s award-winning!

RAC’s Pet Insurance plan has scooped up an impressive three Mozo Experts Choice Awards for Pet Insurance^ in 2022, for Exceptional Value Comprehensive Pet Insurance and Exceptional Quality Pet Insurance – of which two were awarded to RAC’s Pet Insurance + TLC Cover policy.

About RAC Pet Insurance

With over a century’s worth of automobile safety experience, it would be an understatement to say that RAC has a long history. The WA-based insurance provider isn’t all about cars now either, as it also offers home insurance, health insurance, life insurance, bicycle insurance and of course pet insurance.

About RAC’s Mozo Experts Choice Award win

The two main levels of RAC’s pet insurance policy picked up independent awards in the Mozo Experts Choice Awards^ this year.

The standard RAC Pet Insurance cover received an Exceptional Quality Pet Insurance award, while RAC Pet Insurance + TLC Cover took home awards for Exceptional Value Comprehensive Pet Insurance and Exceptional Quality Pet Insurance.

The Mozo judges based their decision on the generosity of benefits and the flexibility included in a pet insurance policy. So, let’s take a look at what RAC's award-winning pet insurance policies have to offer.

RAC Pet Insurance*

RAC Pet Insurance covers cats and dogs. It offers an annual benefit limit of up to $12,000 for injury and illness, plus you’ll also have the option to secure additional benefits by paying extra for TLC Cover, which we’ll take a look at further down.

Features worth noting with RAC’s comprehensive pet insurance policy include:

  • Up to $12,000 annual benefit limit (with up to 80% back on eligible vet bills)
  • Excess starting in $100 (option to raise excess)
  • Option to add on TLC Cover benefits (see below)
  • Accidental injury cover
  • Illness cover
  • Emergency boarding costs (up to $1,000)
  • Essential euthanasia costs (up to 80% back on eligible vet bills)
  • Overseas cover extension (if your pet travels with you to New Zealand or Norfolk Island).

RAC TLC Cover benefits*

Along with their Pet Insurance policy, RAC customers have the option to pay an extra premium to secure TLC Cover benefits.

TLC Cover can help out with some of the cost of eligible preventative treatments for your pet, which can include:

  • Desexing
  • Microchipping
  • Heartworm prevention
  • Teeth cleaning
  • Alternative therapies (like physiotherapy and hydrotherapy)
  • Vaccination
  • Health checks at the vet.

However, keep in mind that reading the product disclosure statement (PDS) of your policy before purchasing it is the best way to understand if a policy meets your needs. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of the benefit limits, sub-limits, inclusions, and exclusions of a policy – including TLC Cover limits. The relevant PDS and Target Market Determination (TMD) can be found on the RAC website.
